Stay overnight in Meppel

A night in Meppel does not have to mean a standard hotel. At Bed & Breakfast Reestdal you stay on the edge of Meppel, in the Reestdal, in the listed Evesingehus farmhouse. Peace, space and a historic farm from 1585 – with Meppel centre close by.

Stay in Meppel at the historic Evesingehus

If you search for a place to stay in Meppel, you will often find hotels in or around the centre. Bed & Breakfast Reestdal is different: you stay at Hoogeveensweg 26 in Meppel, in a Saxon farmhouse dating back to 1585. The Evesingehus is a real home, with timber beams, a later front house and views over meadows.

It is a natural base if you want Meppel nearby, but prefer the quiet of the Reestdal in the evening. You can be in town quickly for a café, the canals or shops, and just as quickly back among storks, sandy lanes and the river Reest.

Why stay in Meppel?

Meppel is small enough to feel manageable and large enough for dinner, shops and a railway station. It sits conveniently between Zwolle, Hoogeveen, Steenwijk and Giethoorn. For a weekend in Meppel that is ideal: town, water and countryside without long transfers.

Meppel is not an overcrowded destination. Staying here feels down-to-earth. At our farm that comes with the Reestdal landscape: hay meadows, hedgerows and a yard where the morning starts with birds rather than traffic.

Our rooms and stays

Choose the stay that fits your trip. The Yellow Room is a self-contained ground-floor apartment with its own entrance – useful for a longer stay or extra privacy. The Cow Room is in the farmhouse itself and has a generous private bathroom. The Front House is the most spacious option, for up to four guests (with optional extras). The vintage camper is the most distinctive and affordable bed.

Affordable stays in Meppel

Want an affordable night in Meppel without a generic hotel or a roadside inn? At Bed & Breakfast Reestdal you can choose different price levels. The vintage camper is the sharpest rate: a complete, cosy night in the orchard. Farmhouse rooms cost more, but stay straightforward – especially once breakfast, on-site parking and a quiet night are included in the comparison.

Affordable does not mean bare. Even in the camper you sleep on the yard of a listed farmhouse, with sanitary facilities, linen and the countryside around you. For two guests the Yellow Room or Cow Room is often the most comfortable choice; for a small group the Front House can beat two separate hotel rooms.

Stay near Meppel centre

The Evesingehus sits on Hoogeveensweg, on the edge of Meppel – not in the inner city. That is a choice. You park on the property, hear little traffic at night and look out over fields. Meppel centre is still a short drive: canals, restaurants, shops and the station. If you searched for a stay in central Meppel but want quiet, this is often a better compromise than a room on a busy street.

If you arrive by train, Hans and Marlie can often collect you by arrangement. By car you are quickly here from Zwolle, Hoogeveen or the A28.

What to do during your stay?

Meppel itself is compact: canals, warehouses and a walkable centre. The Reestdal starts almost at the gate – staying in the Reestdal is literally true here. Walking and cycling routes leave from the yard.

Giethoorn is a classic day trip. Prefer not to sleep in the tourist village itself? Then staying near Giethoorn from Meppel is a quieter base. Zwolle and Staphorst are also close. Meppel becomes a hub, without a generic chain hotel.
