Sleep in the landscape, not next to it
Many people searching for a stay in the Reestdal want the valley itself, not just a nearby postcode. The Evesingehus stands in that historic landscape: the Reest marks the border of Drenthe and Overijssel. Hedgerows, wet meadows and old yards set the scene. In the morning you hear birds; in season you see storks on poles and in the fields.
The farmhouse is not a replica. Foundations and beams go back to 1585. Together with the neighbouring yard of Het Drentse Landschap it forms a recognised country estate. That is why “B&B Reestdal” is a description here, not a slogan.
Walking and cycling from the yard
You do not have to drive ten kilometres to a trailhead. Walking routes run along sandy paths and boardwalks through wet ground. Cyclists use the south-west Drenthe network: green villages, heath and the brook valley in changing loops. That makes a night in the Reestdal worthwhile if you actually want to be outdoors, not just “some greenery nearby” on a hotel website.
Afterwards you come back to a yard with a view, not a car park. Combine it with a stay linked to Meppel if you still want town in the evening, or with a weekend break if you plan two full days outside.
Storks and seasons
Storks belong to this area. They nest on poles and roofs, feed in the meadows and circle on thermals. It is not a promise for every night of the year – it is one reason guests linger here longer than in a city garden. Spring and summer are strongest; the winter Reestdal is quieter and just as honestly beautiful.
Staying in the Reestdal is not a theme park. It is a landscape you take in if you sleep here, not if you only drive through for an afternoon.
